In Barcelona, the celebration of Sant Jordi is a deeply significant tradition for the Catalans, intertwined with the bustle of the streets and the aroma of roses. The pavement of the city, silent witnesses of this festivity, becomes a unique canvas where people express their stories, feelings, and memories.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project is inspired by the tradition of Sant Jordi, an emblematic celebration of Barcelona that combines culture, love, and symbolism. The iconic tiles of the city, present in every corner, serve as a creative medium to tell the stories of the Catalans, their emotions, and their memories. Through this work, I seek to reinterpret these tiles as a space where visual identity and traditions meet, creating a connection between the urban and the sentimental.
PROJECT OBJECTIVE
The objective of the project is to capture the essence of the festivity through a design that uses the tiles of Barcelona as a visual metaphor. Through simple yet evocative shapes and symbols, I want to represent how people experience this festivity, leaving traces of their emotions in the urban environment. The intention is to convey the cultural value of this tradition while exploring the aesthetic possibilities that the tiles offer as an expressive vehicle.
CREATIVE PROCESS
The creative process began with a deep investigation into the history and elements that make up the celebration of Sant Jordi. Inspired by the symbolism of roses, books, and dragons, I explored how these elements could merge with the geometric shapes of the characteristic tiles of Barcelona. From there, I created several sketches that were later refined digitally, paying special attention to the color palette and texture to reflect the festive and urban atmosphere of the city. I opted for the vector design technique to create patterns and symbols that could be applied both in print and digital media.
This project allowed me to explore the connection between tradition and contemporary design, using a commonplace element like the tiles of Barcelona to give it new visual meaning. The festivity of Sant Jordi, with its blend of love, culture, and community, is an endless source of inspiration, and through this work, I have sought to reinterpret it from a unique graphic perspective. The result is a piece that celebrates not only tradition but also the city itself and its inhabitants, showing how personal stories can be embedded in the urban landscape.
